Build. Grow. Lead: The Climate Coalition's Community Organiser Programme
Want to build something that lasts?
This programme is for anyone who wants to organise local action on climate and nature - whether you've been doing it for years or you're just getting started.
Over six months, we'll support you to build or strengthen a community group that can take action all year round, grow its own leadership, and arrive at Great Big Green Week 2027 ready to make it the biggest and best yet. You'll finish December with real skills, connections to fellow organisers across the UK, and a concrete plan that's yours to own.

Why this programme?
Great Big Green Week is the UK's biggest celebration of community action on climate and nature - and it's powered by people like you. But the most powerful GBGW events don't happen by accident. They grow from strong, organised local communities that have been building relationships, taking action, and developing leadership all year round.
That's what this programme is designed to help you do! Whether you are an established group or looking to build your team, this programme will support you no matter where you are on your journey.
How does it work?
You will take part in six monthly online sessions, 60–90 minutes each, facilitated by The Climate Coalition. Between sessions, you'll have access to regular drop in and connection sessions - a facilitated space to connect with fellow organisers and share what's really happening - and a limited number of one-to-one catch-ups with The Climate Coalition if you want direct support on your specific situation.
This is a carefully designed journey where each session builds on the last. We ask that you commit to attending as many sessions as you can and see it through to December - because the magic happens when people stay with it.
The six sessions

What you will learn: Relational organising - how to have real conversations that build trust and lay the foundations of a group people actually want to be part of. You'll leave knowing how to identify and connect with the people around you and get them ready to act.
18 August: 6.00 - 7.30 pm; What are we here to do?
What you will learn: Building shared purpose and group identity - giving your group a name, a direction, and a reason to keep coming back. You'll leave with a shared purpose statement and group norms you've built together.
16 September: 6.00 - 7.30 pm; How do we organise ourselves?
What you will learn: Structure and distributed leadership — moving people from showing up to taking real ownership. You'll leave knowing how to build a group that doesn't depend on one person to keep it going.
27 October: 6.00 - 7.30 pm; Do something together.
What you will learn: Collective action - how to choose the right thing, do it well, and use it to deepen your group's commitment and confidence. You'll leave ready to take a real action together and knowing how to build on it.
17 November: 6.00 - 7.30 pm; Build your base.
What you will learn: Growing through relationships - using the story of what you've done together to bring new people in. You'll leave with a clear approach to growing your group and developing your next tier of leaders.
8 December: 6.00 - 7.30 pm; The 2027 plan.
