The Carbon Community will be hosting a day of Community Science Volunteering on Saturday 6th June at Glandwr Forest, our site near Llandovery, Wales during Great Big Green Week.

Glandwr Forest is a new native broadleaf forest and is home to The Carbon Community’s landmark carbon study, which aims to accelerate and enhance the sequestration of carbon dioxide (CO2) in trees and soil to tackle the climate crisis. This unique field trial combines forest microbiome inoculation and enhanced rock weathering, two nature-based climate solutions which have never previously been deployed together at scale.

Community Science Volunteering is an opportunity for people to get involved in scientists' work by taking measurements or helping maintain the study's integrity on the ground.

Activities include:

Activities will include important maintenance activities for our carbon study: checking tags and stakes, fixing corner posts, and painting centre posts.

Note, that all our activities are outdoors on rough terrain. Activities are suitable for 16+, under 18s must bring a responsible adult.

The Day

1. 9:30 - 10:00 Barn will be open for coffee and tea
2. 10:00 - 10:30 Training & safety briefing
3. 10:30 - 12:30 Out in the trees
4. 12:30 - 13:30 Lunch
5. 13:30 - 15:30 Out in the trees
6. 15:30 - 16:00 Coffee & tea at the barn to celebrate

1. The Carbon Community will provide hot drinks, snacks and a lunch suitable for vegetarians & vegans, with gluten free options. If you have additional dietary requirements please bring your own lunch and snacks. Note that our barn is a peanut free environment.
