How can we use technology to design and engineer connected green🌿 spaces that are healthier, safer, cleaner, smarter, more inclusive, sustainable, and better for biodiversity?

We invite you to our EPSRC Green+ Network Launch and Funding Sandpit, taking place at Birmingham Botanical Gardens on 11the of June 2026. Funded under the EPSRC Engineering Healthier Environment theme.

We will explore how sensing, connectivity, edge AI, digital twins, embedded intelligence, and human-centred engineering can enable green spaces and greener neighbourhoods that are healthier, safer, cleaner, more inclusive, inviting for physical activity, better for biodiversity, and connected through green connectivity across parks, roadsides, waterways, campuses, neighbourhoods, and urban infrastructure, including applications such as flood defence.

This will not be a standard workshop. It is designed as a working event: a space to form collaborations, develop ideas quickly, and shape fundable projects. The strongest project emerging from the sandpit will receive funding.

We are working with a wide range of collaborators including Canal & River Trust, Parkwood Leisure, Parks for London, GreenSpace Scotland, Fourth Portal, Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew Gardens, Arm, Cisco’s The Lister Alliance, The Conservation Volunteers, Forward Institute, National Trust, Walk Wheel Cycle Trust, BRIDGES for Dementia Network+, Nottingham Rehabilitation Centre, National Highways, PGL Beyond Adventures, adventure parks, zoos, and a growing number of technology companies.

We have already received registrations from more than universities and organisations across the UK and speakers from Arm and Cisco..
