The first circuit is a 8.6 mile walk and the second is some 4 miles long. Both sections are hilly, with a few strenuous climbs, affording some glorious views. The first loop has 2,328 feet of ascent and the second 1,138. We leave New Radnor and are soon into a steep climb up Smatcher Hill. As we catch our breath, a vast expanse of the beautiful Herefordshire countryside comes into view. The route takes us over varied terrain to the waterfall known as Water Break its Neck. Here we can take a moment to enjoy its charm and - depending on the weather - either some welcome cool or the drama of the waterfall in full flow. We then progress towards Davy Morgan's Dingle and over the next hill, pausing for a well-earned lunch following our ascent. Refreshed, we make our way down Harley Valley and back to New Radnor, via the church. Some walkers may wish to call it a day at that point, likely to be at about 3 o'clock. Those with some puff left can then ascend, via Jack's Green and around some woods, to Winyard Rocks. It's then around the Whimble, where we are greeted with a view that has the 'wow factor'. Our descent is down Mutton Dingle, over Castle Mound and back to the village.
