Advertising drives rampant consumption, creating the vast amounts of waste and pollution which is destroying our planet. Digital outdoor advertising screens also use unnecessary energy and create light pollution which impacts on local ecosystems. To continue to build outdoor advertising screens which advertise products which are both harmful to people and the planet during a climate crisis is absurd. But we can do something about it... Join us for a day of creativity, conversation and connection as we explore how to build cities that put people, communities and nature first. This event from AdBlock Leeds and Adfree Cities is about reimagining our public spaces—free from the pressure of corporate advertising— turning them into places that support wellbeing, joy and justice. We’ll hear from artists, activists, planners and local people who are working to make our cities fairer, greener and more caring. Through workshops, talks and shared ideas, we’ll explore how consumer culture affects our mental health and environment, and dream up ways to make space for art, green spaces and community power.
