Join the Sandwich Bay Big Green Week Wildlife Walk & Beach Clean! Spend a meaningful morning with Kent Wildlife Trust and Sandwich Bay Bird Observatory Trust's education ranger as we explore the rich wildlife of this stunning coastal area—and take action to protect it. Discover the diverse plants and animals that call Sandwich Bay home, then roll up your sleeves for a rewarding beach clean to help preserve this precious habitat. Whether you're a seasoned nature lover or just curious to learn more about local wildlife, this event is a fantastic way to connect with your community, enjoy the outdoors, and make a real environmental impact. Everyone is welcome—let’s make a difference together! We will be meeting at 9.30 at Sandwich Bay Bird Observatory (Venue: Sandwich Bay Bird Observatory, Guilford Rd, Sandwich Bay, Sandwich CT13 9PF.) We will lead participants on a guided walk down to the sanddunes, looking out for birdlife and summer flora and fauna on the way. We will collect beach cleaning equipment down on the beach and spend some time removing plastic and ghost netting from the strandline. We will avoid the top of the beach so as not to disturb shore nesting birds. We will head back to the Bird Observatory where there are facilities, a shop and even an option to grab a hot drink. Sandwich Bay Bird Observatory lies within the private estate of Sandwich Bay, which operates a toll road. There is a small fee of £1 at theTollgate for non-members visiting the Observatory. However, you must exit from the same toll booth, otherwise you will be charged £5. Once at Sandwich Bay Bird Observatory's Field Centre, parking is free. If the toll booth operators are absent during the time of your visit, you can pay the £1 charge on your exit. Please dress for the weather and bring a drink and sun protection with you.
