Donate your used but good quality modern Children's books to Blagreaves Library and give them a new life and a new audience. Bring them along to the Community Picnic at King George V Park on Saturday 7 June between 2pm-5pm or Drop them into Blagreaves Library during opening hours between 7-15 June 2025 Donating books to Blagreaves library is a fantastic way to support sustainability while enriching your community. Here are some key environmental benefits: - Reducing Waste: Instead of books ending up in landfills, donating them ensures they are reused and enjoyed by others, cutting down on unnecessary waste. - Saving Trees: Recycling and reusing books help reduce the demand for new paper production, which in turn helps conserve forests and natural resources. - Lowering Carbon Footprint: Manufacturing new books requires energy and resources. By donating, you help minimize the environmental impact associated with book production. - Encouraging a Circular Economy: Libraries thrive on book donations, allowing more people to access literature without needing to purchase new copies, promoting a culture of sharing and sustainability. Your donation not only benefits the planet but also fosters literacy and learning in your community. Have you got a stack of books ready to donate? Let's support Sporting Communities too as they take over management of our local library - In December the Council announced that Sporting Communities has been appointed to run Derby's community libraries - including Blagreaves. Sporting Communities, a community development organisation, will create a Trust to operate the city’s non-statutory library service. The organisation has agreed leases with the Council, who will provide a financial support package to operate the community libraries. Founded in 2012, Sporting Communities is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company that specialises in youth work and sports development. It uses local parks and sports fields to help people get involved in sports and other activities. It has run Normanton Park Community Centre and the Football Foundation Play Zone and Cruyff Court since they opened in Normanton Park in March 2024. Other areas of expertise include bringing children and families together through play, the arts, heritage and events and an award-winning training academy for young entrepreneurs. Sporting Communities’ work has been recognised for its effectiveness in preventing youth crime and promoting social inclusion.
