South Holt Farm visit – an example of local rewilding

Sunday 8 June 9.30 – 1pm, including a bring-your-own picnic on the farm. South Holt is a 750-acre farm in the South Downs, near Havant, which has been run purely as a wildlife sanctuary for the last five years. We use natural processes where possible and human intervention where necessary. Our herd of grazing cattle are helping transform ex-arable fields into a wildlife-rich mosaic of scrub and open grassland. We are also allowing ancient woodland to regenerate where it was destroyed by commercial timber-production. When you visit South Holt, you will see the process of “rewilding” in action. You will also have the opportunity to consider that land is limited and precious. Both wildlife and people rely on it to provide them with somewhere to live and something to eat. You can consider that we have to make a choice about how we share our planet and whether we’re willing to put some areas aside purely for the benefit of non-human organisms. Please car share.
